Database development and use is based on a single information model expressed in the OMS generic object data model OM.

Role Modelling
OM supports information modelling through a two-level structure of classification and typing. Entities are classified into one or more collections corresponding to their roles and are represented in the database by objects with attributes and methods as defined by the associated types. Role-dependent object views and behaviour is achieved by associating different types with different roles.
Other Features
OM has an association construct which enables relationships to be classified and manipulated directly. The model includes a powerful set of operations over both roles and associations.
