Collaborative Editing

Collaboration is a key requirement of teams of individuals working together towards some common goal. Computer-supported collaboration is an increasingly common occurrence, driven by the evolving global nature of business, science and engineering and enabled by improvements in computing and communication technologies. Within the Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) field, collaborative editing systems have been developed to support a group of people editing documents collaboratively over a computer network.

Our goal is to build a general system for supporting collaboration for a range of application domains that offers the possibility to customise the collaborative environment to different subcommunities of users at different points in time. We offer customisation both in terms of the types of the documents that form the basic unit of collaboration, i.e. textual, graphical and XML, and also in terms of the modes of collaboration for the different stages of the development of a common task, i.e. synchronous and asynchronous.
