Area of Interest

My professional interests revolve around object databases in theory and and how they are used in practice. This includes technical problems related to large databases, distributed databases, schema evolution and benchmarking, especially in the context of agile development methods.

Backround

• 2002-2009 Working in Leiden, Netherlands for Anite System and later VEGA Systems on the Herschel Common Science System for the European Space Agency (ESA). The software is used for the scientific operation of the Herschel Space Observatory. My work included architecture, implementation and operation of the multi-terabyte distributed persistence solution for most of the data that is sent to or coming from the satellite.
• 2002-2003 Working in Darmstadt, Germany for Anite Systems on the STC II software (Station Computer software) for the European Space Agency.
• 1994-2001 Degree as Dipl.-Ing. of Building Engineering at the University of Darmstadt, Germany. Principal subjects were Geotechnics, Informatics and Hydraulic Engineering. Thesis: “Realisierung einer integrierten Arbeitsumgebung zum Entwurf und zur Bemessung von Tiefgründungen und Kombinierten Pfahl-Plattengründungen mit Hilfe der Methode der Finiten Elemente”.
